Anna Mudeka, born in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a multi-instrumentalist, actress, singer, writer, educator and founder of the Mudeka Foundation.
At age 18, she moved to Norfolk, working tirelessly to share her music, culture and experiences. A celebrated performer, she toured her one-woman show, Kure Kure, Faraway in 2019, telling her story through music and dance, and has since performed in Kunene and the King in the West End. Working with Norfolk schools in particular, Anna Mudeka has given many musical workshops, using the opportunity to share her passions and inspire the next generations.
The Mudeka Foundation is a Norfolk-based charity founded in 2011 that supports the education of orphaned and disadvantaged children in Zimbabwe.
The Wymondham High FemSoc have chosen to celebrate Anna Mudeka because she is an inspiration.
We were lucky enough to meet with her and learn more about her and her life. Her passion is infectious, and she is endlessly humble about the number of lives she has touched. To her, the Mudeka Foundation was the logical thing to do after seeing schools and families struggling in her home town and she stressed to us the importance of doing something that inspires you – saying:
I could have beautifully manicured nails, but that doesn’t inspire me
